SAMSUNG IS WORKING ON AN AMOLED DISPLAY WITH A 1000 PPI PIXEL DENSITY

For today's solutions, Samsung is developing technology to manufacture AMOLED displays with an impressive 1000 ppi resolution. The first of these panels is scheduled to be unveiled in 2024

To achieve these high densities, the technology employs an advanced TFT substrate. Since OLED and TFT are unrelated, it is more accurate to conclude that we are still discussing AMOLED technology. According to reports, the TFT-matrix in the built screens would be “ten times” faster than currently available options. At the same time, the company anticipates that the high-resolution display would be more cost-effective to produce than current thin-film transistor versions. It's unclear how Samsung plans to accomplish this

A 1000 ppi display is ideal for VR headsets in principle, but Samsung hasn't shown much interest in this product category so far. Nonetheless, the achievement of such metrics was discussed four years ago in the Samsung Gear VR division. It was thought that the matrix's high density and speed would prevent "seasickness" and other harmful effects when wearing virtual reality helmets

THE NUMBER OF SMARTPHONES WITH AMOLED DISPLAYS WILL CONTINUE TO GROW, WITH ALMOST 40% OF THE MARKET IN 2021.
Experts from TrendForce have released a report based on the findings of a recent analysis of the global smartphone industry. According to the study, the percentage of models with AMOLED displays will increase to 39% this year. At the same time, the percentage of smartphones with LCD displays will decline; however, demand for these panels will remain strong in the entry and middle price segments. The market share of LTPS LCDs is expected to fall to 33%, but the market share of LTPS HD displays is expected to grow

Analysts predict that the amount of component purchases for smartphone manufacturing will remain strong throughout the year. This is due to the fact that smartphone demand is projected to skyrocket in 2021. The fact that there was a shortage of components last year due to the coronavirus pandemic, which caused major vendors to stock up on those components, also plays a significant role

Standard AMOLED displays will continue to be actively used by manufacturers in products in the middle and premium segments, ensuring that their share of the market remains strong. At the same time, high-performance and flagship smartphone models will primarily use versatile AMOLED panels. AMOLED displays are expected to gradually absorb market share from LCD panels in the mid and premium segments, moving them into the lower price segment, according to analysts
